Museo Nazionale Romano

 

 

Inspired by chiaroscuro paintings and the high contrast interiors of the city, "Framing the Collection" is a branding project for the National Museums of Rome (Museo Nazionale Romano), comprising of four separate locations in the historic center.

The project showcases the ancient sculpture collections by framing and positioning them against the distinctive architectural features of the often overlooked buildings in which they are housed. Replicating the vistas created when architecture frames art, the designed graphic system pairs architectural severity, clear geometry and the simple forms of the museum buildings with the figurative, detailed and organic shapes of the sculpture pieces.

 

The result is a playful campaign in which the often static architectural silhouettes become dynamic portals with which to frame, focus and appreciate the works in the collections.
